How to change a rangehood globe

March 9, 2021 | Rangehoods

Have you been putting off those small DIY jobs in your home? Time to tackle the kitchen with a quick and easy fix. We show you how to change a rangehood globe with our easy step by step guide.

No modern kitchen is complete without a rangehood (also known as an extractor hood or stove hood). Rangehoods are essential for removing kitchen odours. They are also effective in eliminating heat and excess steam when cooking. A well-lit rangehood makes life easier, supplying necessary light when cooking.

At some point, you may notice that your light globe has burnt out and needs replacing. The first step is to buy a replacement rangehood globe/bulb. You can check your operating manual to find what type of globe you require. These are usually LED, incandescent or halogen. Some halogen globes include the lamp holder. Alternatively, if you have your rangehood model number, you can easily find your replacement globe here.

Types of globes

LED Globes

Halogen Light Globes

Incandescent Light globes

Safety first! Before you replace your rangehood globe, make sure you disconnect your appliance from the power source first. If you have used your rangehood recently, wait for it to cool down before changing the globe.

What you will need:

  • Replacement rangehood globe
  • Gloves or dry cloth
  • Flat head screw driver (if replacing halogen globe)

Step 1

Switch off the fan and lighting. Disconnect the rangehood from the mains electrical supply before replacing the globe.

Step 2

If you cannot access your globe, you may need to remove your grease filter first. You can easily do this by pulling the latch tabs to release the filters.

Step 3

Replacing LED light globes

  • To replace an LED light globe, either unscrew the globe in an anti-clockwise direction, or push in and twist one quarter turn in an anti-clockwise direction.
  • Remove the faulty globe.
  • Refit the new globe by applying gentle pressure and twisting clockwise, until it locks into place.

Replacing halogen globes

Handy tip! Do not touch the halogen glove surface or inside the reflectors. Always use gloves or a lint free cloth as any oily residue from your fingertips can cause breakage or shorten the lifespan of your globe

  • To replace a halogen light, you will need to use a flat head screw driver to gently remove the halogen light glass cover.
  • Pull out the old light globe and discard.
  • Using gloves or a dry cloth, gently insert the new halogen light globe by securing into the light socket.
  • Replace the glass cover.

Replacing incandescent globes

  • To replace an incandescent globe, either unscrew the globe in an anti-clockwise direction, or push in and twist one quarter turn in an anti-clockwise direction.
  • Remove the faulty globe.
  • Refit the new globe, applying gentle pressure and screwing or twisting clockwise until it locks in place.

Step 4

After the globe is installed, re-connect your rangehood and switch on the light to ensure that it is working.

Now may be a good time to check your filters to make sure they are nice and clean. You can read more in our handy guide which shows you the easiest way to clean your rangehood filters.
